Ducks Keep Their Lead in Pac-12 Championships
04/22/15 | Women's Golf
BOULDER, Colo. – The No. 28 Oregon women's golf team turned in another quality round Tuesday afternoon at the Pac-12 Championships and held their ground atop the 11-team field. After a 5-over 289 at the Boulder Country Club, the Ducks are now tied in first place with No. 3 UCLA who finished the day with a 2-over 286.
Cassy Isagawa carried the torch with a 1-under 70, while the Ducks' other three counting scores hovered a couple strokes away from par. In tomorrow's final round Oregon will be contending for what would be their first Pac-12 Women's Golf Championship in school history.
Round Two: Isagawa recorded all three of her birdies on par-4's and weathered just one bogey on each side to bolster the Oregon's day. After firing an even-par 71 yesterday, the senior finds herself tied for sixth place on the tournament with a two-day tally of 141.
Caroline Inglis enjoyed another successful day after finishing round two with a 1-over 72. After playing the first 14 holes 1-under par, the Eugene native took a double bogey on the par-3 No. 15, but rebounded with three straight pars to close out her round strong. She is currently tied for third individually at 3-under, just two shots back of UCLA's Bronte Law (5-under 137).
Kelsey Ulep added on to her already impressive Pac-12 Championships debut with another 2-over 73. The freshman sprinkled in three birdies over the course of her round and managed to do a good job of responding from her bad holes with good scores. She is currently tied for 19th at 4-over.
Cathleen Santoso provided the last counting score for Oregon after firing a 3-over 74. The sophomore kept away from the big numbers and hung in well enough to put herself in a spot to finish in the top 25 tomorrow (T23rd – 5-over).
Marcella Pranovia carded a 7-over 78, she is tied for 47th.
Four-Team Race: Even though one of the seven teams in the back end of the standings could make a late tournament push tomorrow, the championship will likely be won by one of the top four teams. After Oregon and UCLA in first at 5-over, No. 6 Arizona is just one stroke behind at 6-over and No. 7 Washington is three shots back at 8-over. The team who can piece together a score below or close to par will likely be standing at the top of the podium at the end of the day.
Success on Par-4's: The Ducks have been recording low scores this week in large part because of their success on the most common type of hole in golf – par-4's. Oregon leads the field with a 4.13 average (7-over) and Inglis leads all individuals with a 3.91 average (2-under).
On Track For History: Regardless of what place UO finishes in tomorrow, the Ducks are already well on their way to recording their best Pac-12 Championship tournament score in school history. Already with just a 573, the Ducks should shatter the previous record that was set in 2010 when they finished with an 889 playing at the Eugene Country Club, which was good for third place. Oregon will also be chasing that same third-place result, which is also currently the best finish at the Pac-12 Championships in school history.
Final Round: UO will tee of tomorrow morning in the final group with players from UCLA beginning at 10:20 a.m. (MT) off the No. 1 tee.
