Ducks Fall at No. 17 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – A five-run first inning was too much for No. 1 Oregon to overcome as the Ducks fell, 6-4, on Friday night in the second game of the series at No. 17 Arizona.
The Ducks dropped to 45-6 (20-3 Pac-12) as the loss snapped a 15-game winning streak, which tied the program's longest under head coach Mike White. The UO record is 18 straight wins coming in 2007.
UCLA is playing Arizona State currently in Tempe and the Ducks will clinch an outright Pac-12 title if the Bruins lose. If UCLA wins, the Ducks can still clinch their third straight outright conference title with a win tomorrow in the regular season finale.
Scoring Summary: Oregon scored three runs in the first inning for the second straight game.
Nikki Udria opened the game with a double and later scored on a single by Janie Takeda. After a stolen base by Takeda, Jenna Lilley lifted a sacrifice fly to left to bring home another run. Janelle Lindvall later hit a solo home run to straight away center.
While the three runs in the first were enough to win, 3-0, on Thursday in the opening game of the series, the lead was short-lived on Friday.
Arizona's Katiyana Mauga hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to tie it and Mo Mercado, Danica Mercado's sister, hit a two-run blast later in the inning to give the Wildcats a 5-3 lead.
Oregon got one back in the third on a fielder's choice RBI by Lindvall but that would be it for the Ducks on offense. Arizona added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
In the Circle: Geri Ann Glasco suffered the loss and fell to 7-2 on the season after allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits and a walk in 0.2 innings.
Karissa Hovinga entered with two outs in the first and gave up just one more run on five hits in 5.1 innings. She struck out a pair and walked a pair.
Stat Sheet: Lilley led the Ducks with two hits while Lindvall had a pair of RBIs.
Up Next: No. 1 Oregon closes out the regular season on Saturday with an 8:30 p.m. first pitch against Arizona on ESPNU.
