Bill Dellinger Invitational Quotes
09/12/15 | Cross Country
Edward Cheserek – Distance, Junior
On the meet…
“It was alright, it is my third week of training and a home meet. It is easy to come back when it is a home meet.”
On the team …
“I think we are in decent shape but it isn't really good shape, so we are going to go down to Sunriver tomorrow and put in all the work.”
On Gonzaga's early lead…
“I wasn't even worried about him. I always just think the first mile does not count. I started seeing him slowing down and knew he went out too fast and was slowing down.”
Maurica Powell – Assistant Coach
On the women's race…
“For the women it was just an opportunity to get them to practice running together and really just get the wheels going again. We worked out once on Tuesday, so this is really the first I have seen of them in a competitive setting since we have been back together again. We saw some good things today, so I was pleased.”
On Alli's win…
“Alli Cash has been on the cusp of being pretty good here. She made the NCAA meet as a freshman, and she made it again last year. She is getting better and really she is right there, so it was good to see her take a really positive step in the right direction.”
On Waverly's performance…
“I thought Wave did a great job. She is a kid who missed half of the outdoor season injured and then ended up being fifth in the NCAA meet 10K. We really gave her a lot of time off this summer and delayed her training, so she is pretty undercooked right now and I thought still did a good job for us.”
Waverly Neer – Distance, Senior
On the meet…
“Our goal was just to get back as a team. We got back in Eugene early this week, so we all wanted to run together and just be tough today in the heat and composed. I think collectively as a group we did that today.”
On getting back into competition meets…
“Our team has a great cohesion and we work really well together, so the goal was to treat this as usual and get a great workout in. That is what we did today and it went pretty flawlessly. These girls are my best friends, so I come out here and run with them and I think it works pretty well.”
Alli Cash - Middle Distance Runner, Sophomore
On the race and the win...
"We really just wanted to work together, us four or five out front. We just wanted to get a good start and work together and stay composed and tough and ready to work hard up at Sunriver to kickstart the season."
On what she learned during the race...
"After all training basically separately over the summer, it's always so great to come back and have people to run with. I think we proved that today that it's so much easier with other people."
Andy Powell - Associate Head Coach
On how the meet went...
"I'm very pleased. The weather cooperated by the end, it cooled off, and our support staff does such a good job running these meets, so all I really did was show up and coach."
On the men's performance...
"For those guys to pack it up and run together, that was really kind of the main objective. We weren't quite able to do that last year and spread out a little bit. If they already have that figured out now, it's going to make my job a lot easier."
On trying to not go out too fast...
"Our guys sat back smart and closed the gap halfway through the race. They still went out much harder than they have in the past, so it will serve us well down the line when we get into those bigger meets and they have to go out hard."
