Beyond the Green: Teddy Oitzman
10/14/16 | Men's Golf
GoDucks.com caught up with men's golf freshman, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. native, Teddy Oitzman, about his transition to the University of Oregon and what's he's most looking forward to the rest of the season.
Name: Teddy Oitzman
Year: Freshman
Major: Pre-Business
Hometown: Rancho Santa Fe, California
What made you choose the University of Oregon?
I selected the University of Oregon, because I felt like I would grow the most as a golfer and as a person by playing for coach Casey Martin. He is a great role model and person to be around, as well as our new assistant, John Ellis.
What has been your transition like so far to collegiate golf moving to a new state?
The transition has been fairly smooth. It is an adjustment playing in rain. I'm not used to it quite yet, coming from southern California, but I am enjoying my time here in Eugene.
What are you most excited for this season?
I am excited to play with guys on my team who have a lot of experience, such as Wyndham Clark, Sulman Raza and Thomas Lim.
What does it mean to you to be on the University of Oregon men's golf team?
It is a huge honor and a big role to play for Oregon. It is such a special school with a great program. I feel like I am coming in at a perfect time, right after the national championship.
Did you play in any tournaments this summer? If so, how did you do – what was your favorite course/experience?
I played in a handful off AJGA events. I really enjoyed playing in Sunriver, Ore. It is a really great town and it is always better when Casey comes out to watch me compete. Â
What has been your favorite course you've ever played in your life?
I got a chance to play Augusta National when I was twelve-years-old. That was an unforgettable opportunity and I hope to be able to go back there one day.
If you could choose anyone in the world to play a round with, who would you choose?
I would love to play with Tiger Woods. He has won so many events in the modern era and he was the player I loved to watch the most growing up. Ultimately, he was the person who got me hooked on golf.
What/how are you hoping to develop the most this season?
I am hoping to develop my mental game. Working with Casey and a sports psychologist has been helping me a lot so far.
Where is your favorite spot on campus?
I love Autzen Stadium. The games are so fun and the student section is a blast.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
New York Strip that my dad grills.Â
Growing up, who was your athletic role model and why?
Trevor Hoffman was my idol growing up, because I was a huge baseball fan. Growing up in San Diego, I was able to watch him break records in person, which was unforgettable.
What's your favorite video game?
NHL is my favorite video game. My teammates and I play it on the regular and the games tend to get pretty intense.
What's your favorite thing about living in Eugene?
Living in a college town is great. There are so many people my age and it has been a blast to be able to meet a ton of new people.
Who is the funniest guy on the team?
Wyndham is hilarious. He is the best at telling funny stories.Â
