Hamilton, Scavo Lead Ducks In Final Round Of Windy City Collegiate
10/04/16 | Women's Golf
CHICAGO, Ill. – Oregon women's golf bounced back from a rocky first day at the Windy City Collegiate to shoot 3-over as a team in Tuesday's final round and finish the tournament in a tie for ninth at Glen View Club.
How It Happened: The Ducks came out with their best round of the tournament, carding a 3-over 291 to close out the event. Oregon finished 16-over across the two-day, 54-hole event, tied with Oklahoma State to round out the top-10 of the 14-team field. Georgia came away with the tournament win with an overall score of 10-under.
Oregon got a tremendous day from freshman Brooke Hamilton, who sunk five birdies in the final round to shoot a 2-under 70 and finish the event at 6-over. Hamilton finished her round extremely well, recording three of her five birdies on her final four holes.
Sophomore Kathleen Scavo also enjoyed an effective day at Glen View, as she too put in five birdies en route to carding an even-par 72. Scavo finished the Windy City Collegiate at 4-over, tied for 25th.
The Ducks' highest finisher of the tournament was senior Cathleen Santoso, who entered the day at even-par and shot a 73 to end her event at 1-over in a tie for 16th. Santoso bookended her front nine with birdies on No. 1 and No. 9 to stabilize her round.
Sophomore Petra Salko and freshman Amy Matsuoka both had up-and-down days, with Salko shooting 4-over and Matsuoka recording a 6-over 78. Salko finished the event at 8-over, while Matsuoka ended at 11-over.
Senior Marcella Pranovia, playing as an individual, concluded her first event of the fall with a 5-over 77 on Tuesday, going 1-over on the back nine. Pranovia was 13-over for the tournament.
Quotes:
Head Coach Ria Scott
On the tournament…
"This team continues to improve weekly, if not daily. The hole locations today were the toughest we have seen this season, and our team handled it well."
"Our ball striking was more consistent this week overall, with not as many big numbers like double bogeys or more made."
On adjustments that need to be made…
"We just need to get a little better at getting our 10-20 footers in the hole in order for some more birdies to drop."
On Hamilton and Scavo…
"We were very proud of the adjustments that Brooke Hamilton made today, and how Kathleen Scavo buckled down in her final nine holes.
Assistant Coach Laura Cilek
On Scavo…
"Kathleen did a great job of staying patient and having fun out there today. She is hitting the ball great right now and giving herself a lot of looks at birdie. When she plays confident like she did today, the sky's the limit."
Up Next: The Ducks will have some time in Eugene before heading to Greenville, N.C. for their fourth tournament of the fall at the Greenville Regional Preview on Oct. 17-18.
