Romero Tied For First After 36 Holes
03/23/26 | Women's Golf
FORT WORTH, Texas – Oregon women's golf junior Kiara Romero is tied for the individual lead at the Charles Schwab Women's Collegiate Invitational after shooting 3-under par across the first two rounds on Monday at Colonial Country Club.
The top-ranked amateur in the world, Romero opened the 36-hole day with a 1-under 69 before improving by one stroke with a 2-under 68 in the second round. She will enter Tuesday's final round in a tie with Texas' Farah O'Keefe for the individual lead, with Stanford's Kelly Xu and Duke's Rianne Malixi just one stroke back in a tie for third a 2 under.
A win on Tuesday would be the Romero's second of the season and sixth of her career, extending the Oregon all-time record she set earlier this spring when she claimed her fifth win at the Chevron Collegiate.
No. 7 Oregon is in fourth place as a team at 13-over par, shooting a 7-over 287 in the opening round and a 5-over 286 in the second round. Top-ranked Stanford leads the field at 2-over par and is followed by No. 5 Texas (+9) and No. 11 Duke (+11), with Oregon two strokes ahead of No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 9 Wake Forest and Oklahoma State for fifth place.
How it Happened: Romero started her day at No. 8 and was 1 over through three holes before going 2 under across her next six to get to 1 under. She was even par with three holes to go before making a birdie at No. 5, and she finished with a pair of pars to come in with a 1-under 69.
Romer's second round opened with a bogey, but she bounced back immediately with three birdies in her next six holes. She was mistake-free the rest of the way, closing her day with 11 consecutive pars to remain at 2 under for the round and go into Tuesday in a tie with O'Keefe for the lead at 3 under.
With two rounds in the 60s on the par-70 course, Romero has now shot par-or-better in 17 of 20 rounds this season and in 67 of 83 rounds in her Oregon career. She owns 10 sub-70 performances as a junior and 34 in her career.
Freshman Sophie Han made just two bogeys and a birdie in the opening round for a 1-over 71 before carding a 3-over 73 in the second round. She gives the Ducks two players in the top 15 entering Tuesday in a tie for 14th at 4 over.
Junior Darae Chung (+3) and freshman Shyla Singh (+4) rounded out the counting scores in the first round. Sophomore Tong An came in with a 2-over 72 in round two, and Singh completed the counting scores with a 3-over 73.
