Thomas Laurent Wins, 7-6, 6-0, To Move On In Tulsa, Okla.
Tulsa, Okla. – Oregon men's tennis sophomore Thomas Laurent opened the singles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships on Thursday with a win over the 31st-ranked singles player in the country to advance to the second round.
How It Happened: After earning three straight wins earlier in the week to advance out of the singles qualifiers, Laurent began the main draw with a tough opponent in Piotr Lomacki, the No. 31 ranked singles player in the nation out of Miami (Fla.).
Laurent had to battle thorugh the first set, outlasting Lomacki for a 7-5 victory. Laurent turned things on in the second set, cruising to a dominating 6-0 win to move on in the main draw.
"Thomas started a little sluggish today and got down early," said Head Coach Nils Schyllander. "But as his intensity picked up he was able to finish in dominating fashion. Tomorrow brings another great opportunity."
Up Next: The native of Montpellier, France, will take the rest of the day to rest up before continuing in the main draw tomorrow, with time and opponent to be announced later in the day.
