Ducks' Depth On Display In Exhibition
11/07/16 | Men's Basketball
Chris Boucher led the way with 25 points and nine Ducks played at least 18 minutes in Monday's win over NCU.
EUGENE, Ore. — Sports Illustrated cover boy Chris Boucher scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Oregon men's basketball team to an 86-51 exhibition victory Monday before 7,090 in Matthew Knight Arena.
How It Happened: The Ducks, preseason Pac-12 favorites and No. 5 in the national polls, scored on 13 of their first 14 possessions, with Boucher scoring 10 early points as Oregon jumped out to a 27-4 lead. With preseason all-American Dillon Brooks still sidelined by a foot injury, Boucher took the lead — on one sequence he dunked home an alley-oop feed from Dylan Ennis, blocked a shot on the other end and then pulled up for a three-pointer that forced an NCU timeout.
A reverse layin by Jordan Bell and a putback by Tyler Dorsey put the Ducks up 32-6, and the lead reached 30 on another Boucher dunk and a Payton Pritchard free throw that made it 39-9. Oregon led 50-18 at halftime, and was up 60-22 before missing eight straight shots as the Beacons cut it back to 30 at 62-32. The Ducks mixed and matched lineups the rest of the way, taking their biggest lead at 84-43 with 3:39 left.
Who Stood Out: Boucher made 10-of-13 shots on his way to 25 points, and he also blocked a shot in 20 minutes of action. Dorsey and Ennis contributed 11 each in what looks like a quality four-guard rotation with Pritchard and Casey Benson. The Ducks are similarly deep in the post, where JC transfer Kavell Bigby-Williams scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds, providing a third athletic presence down low to complement Boucher and Bell.

Oregon coach Dana Altman
On his overall impressions
"I think our guys realize we've got a lot of work to do. I've been up front with them. We've got to do a better job on the boards. We've got to get a lot better defensively. Offensively we've got a lot of guys to work in. … We play well for a half or a certain period of time, but we don't have the ability to focus, and really stay focused after we get a big lead."
On not maintaining momentum from the first half
"We were really lackadaisical that second half. Got the big lead in the first half, and I'm just really disappointed we didn't use that second 20 minutes to our advantage to get better."
On his plans for the rotation
"It'll work itself out. When Dillon gets back in the mix, guys are going to play hard and earn some time in practice. We'll play as many guys as can help us."
Senior forward Chris Boucher
On Oregon's nine-man rotation
"I think everybody on our team can play. They all have their roles, and I think coach wants to see what people can do. Preseason is the perfect time to see what they can bring to the team."
Notable: Nine Ducks played at least 18 minutes, including freshman wing Keith Smith, who scored four points on 1-of-5 shooting and grabbed three rebounds. … Brooks (foot) and freshman forward M.J. Cage (concussion) were not in uniform. … Northwest Christian is coached by all-time UO great Luke Jackson, whose staff includes former Oregon assistant Fred Litzenberger.
Up Next: The Ducks open the regular season at home against Army on Friday (8 p.m., Pac-12 Network).
