Post-Game Quotes: Oregon vs. Oregon State
02/21/16 | Men's Basketball
Dana Altman – Head Coach, Oregon
On back to back losses…
“I didn't want to make a big deal about last weekend. You see teams all over the country that don't have good outings and it's a long season but I was very disappointed so I was hoping we'd come back and play focus and alert.”
On Tyler Dorsey…
“He's our best shooter … he made some good plays, he got to the basket.
I thought guys did a good job of finding him.Tyler's really quiet, he's hard to get a read on … The zone gave him a few opportunities … I really liked the way he got to the basket, I think he did a good job at attacking.”
On where the Ducks are as a team…
“I think we're in a position here that if we maintain our focus, our intensity and guys will play together, we can regain … now it's just a matter of working our tails off to get better.”
Chris Boucher – Senior, Forward
On the win…
“We were ready. I think everybody was ready to play this game and this was like the first (Pac-12) game that we lost, so we wanted to come back and play against them and make them think that they won't win this game.”
On Tyler Dorsey's big game…
“I think Tyler needed that game. We kept telling him to just play. In the preseason he was always in attack mode, and he kind of went back to a cooler mode but today he was fired up. One hour before practice he had started shooting and stuff, so we knew that he was ready to play this game and I think he just came in in attack mode and made plays for others, and I think when he plays like that it really helps the team.”
On the team's energy tonight…
“I think we really figured out that we are in danger right now. We're trying to win this conference, so we have to play hard and everybody knew that we have to defend and make simple plays, and if we do that we can win games. We just came focused and ready to play.”
Elgin Cook – Senior, Forward
On the team's intensity…
“We had all week to prepare and it was a real big game being that we just lost two games, and we just wanted to come in and focus and just worry about Oregon State.”
On the team's performance…
“We were playing as a team out there. We were having fun, we rebounded well, we defended well and we just got to close out games better.”
On limiting Gary Payton II…
“We just wanted to set our zone up. We knew he was going to drive hard left, and we wanted to shade his left hand and force him right and just set our zone and when the shot went up we'd get the rebound and not allow any second chance points.”
On if this was a redemption game after dropping two last weekend…
“Definitely. It sucks that that had to be our wake-up call, dropping two games, but we just don't want that feeling again. We don't want to lose any games, and every game is just as important.”
Wayne Tinkle – Head Coach, Oregon State
On what the early foul trouble did to the game plan…
“It just took away our aggression defensively. They pinned their ears back and attacked. We haven't given up that many points in a half in quite some time. We had to roll the dice and go back with (Gary Payton II), and luckily he didn't pick up his third in the first half. I think it just set the tone. When your starting one and your starting two both have two fouls before you can bat an eye, it sets the tone for the rest of the game.”
On falling down 20 in the first half…
“We were upset. Our defense overall, our transition defense, the way we handled their press in the first half, it was a shame. I'll take the blame. I might have made this a bigger game than I should have. Maybe it was just a little too much for us right now.
“What I loved was the second half. We challenged the guys to not throw in the towel and play the way we know we're capable of. We didn't defend great, but we defended better and fought a lot harder.”
On if Oregon was a different team tonight than the first meeting…
“Oh yeah, and we knew they would be. After their road trip last week and them coming home, kudos to them. I've got to give them credit. We got in foul trouble. Like I said, they pinned their ears back and attacked, they got in passing lanes and got in transition.
“We did a good job defending the arc in the first half, but they didn't have to shoot too many of them because they were able to get to the rim. We didn't have anybody protecting and we got driven. Offensively, that's how we played last year defensively. We slowed teams down and got them to late in the shot clock, and for some reason we weren't able to do that this year. Oregon's done a nice job of that and they did that in the first half.
“In the second half, we got more aggressive, like we were supposed to from the jump. Much better second half, but disappointing first half. We'll go back and watch the film. I think a lot of it was the early foul trouble that deflated our guys a little.”
