BELLEVUE, Wash. – Kyle Kasser went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead Oregon to a 6-4 nonconference win over Seattle U. at Bannerwood Stadium on Tuesday.
How it happened: Seattle (11-9) jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a three-run home run by Sheldon Stober in the third inning, but Oregon (10-7) rallied to score six runs over the next four innings to build a 6-3 lead.
The Ducks sliced the lead to one with two runs on RBI groundouts by Tim Susnara and Matt Kroon in the top of the fourth inning. Susnara drove in Kasser, who led off the inning with a single, while Kroon scored Jakob Goldfarb, who also reached on a hit.
Kasser put the Ducks on top with a pair of RBI in the fifth inning. With runners on second and third, Kasser laid down a squeeze bunt to score Carson Breshears from third. Austin Grebeck also came around to score on the throw to first which wasn't in time to get Kasser.
Nick Catalano picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored Kroon in the sixth inning, while Goldfarb followed a Kasser double with an RBI single in the seventh inning to give Oregon a three-run lead.
Kasser continues to produce: In his first two starts of the season, Kyle Kasser has six hits, three runs scored and four RBI. The sophomore, who made his first start of the season in Saturday's win over Utah, is 6-for-9 in the two games. He went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI in the Utah win. He sat out Sunday's game with a wrist injury suffered on Saturday, and was a game-time decision as far as playing against Seattle.
Johnny All-Staff: Oregon used seven pitchers in the win with the final six each pitching just one inning. Freshman Kyle Robeniol started and went three innings giving up three runs on four hits. He was followed by Cooper Stiles, Isaiah Carranza, Parker Kelly, Jack Karraker, Matt Mercer and Stephen Nogosek. The first five relievers combined to hold the Redhawks scoreless on just two hits. Nogosek picked up his fifth save of the season after allowing an unearned run after a Breshears' error led to the run.
Grebeck extends on base streak: Sophomore center fielder Austin Grebeck continued his streak of reaching base in every game this season. Grebeck went 2-for-5 with a run scored and now has been on base in all 17 Oregon games in 2016, as well as the last 30 games dating back to last season.
On deck: The Ducks stay in Seattle and will open a three-game Pac-12 series at Washington on Thursday at 7 p.m. Cole Irvin (2-2, 1.82) will get the start for the Ducks in the opener.
