Ducks Shutout Huskies; Even Series

SEATTLE, Wash. – Four Oregon pitchers combined to pitch Oregon's first shutout of the season as the Ducks handed Washington a 2-0 loss in game two of the three-game series on Friday night at Husky Ballpark. The win allowed Oregon to even the series 1-1 heading into Saturday's finale.
How it happened: Matt Krook (1-1) picked up the win throwing five scoreless innings. He was followed on the mound by freshman Jacob Bennett (scoreless sixth and seventh) and Matt Mercer (scoreless eighth), before Stephen Nogosek came in to pitch the ninth and get his sixth save of the season. The four Ducks' pitchers combined to strike out 10 Huskies, while allowing just four hits.
Travis Moniot gave Oregon (11-8, 2-3 Pac-12) all the offense it would need in the fifth when he came through with a two-out single scoring Matt Kroon, who doubled to lead off the inning. The Ducks added an insurance run in the sixth scoring on a hit by pitch, a single and two walks. Nick Catalano picked up the RBI with a two-out base on balls for a 2-0 lead.
Box score notes: The shutout was the first for Oregon since April 1, 2015, when the Ducks beat Seattle U. 4-0 at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro … Austin Grebeck extended his streak of consecutive games reaching base when he was hit by a pitch in the sixth. Grebeck has now reached base in 32 straight games, including all 19 this season … Kyle Kasser continued to swing a hot bat with a 2-for-4 night with a double. Kasser has multiple hits in his four starts in the last week … Joe DeMers (2-1) took the loss for Washington (11-7, 3-2).
On deck: Oregon and Washington will wrap up the three-game series Saturday at 3 p.m. David Peterson (2-2, 1.42) will take the mound for the Ducks, while Spencer Jones (1-2, 5.14) will throw for Washington. The Pac-12 Networks will televise the game.
