A native of Elk Grove, Calif., - just south of Sacramento - Autumn Miller has appeared in three games so far for the Ducks. The freshman made her collegiate debut in the season-opener against Cal Poly. She scored her first career run on Feb. 21 vs. Central Arkansas.
At Pleasant Grove HS, she hit .360 her senior season with two doubles, two triples and two homers.
When did you start playing softball?
“I started in tee ball. I played other sports growing up too. I played soccer and volleyball, but I stuck with softball because I liked it the most. My mom and grandpa played, and I wanted to be like them.”
Did either of them play in college?
“No, I am the first person in my family to play a collegiate sport.”
What is your first softball memory?
“When I was 10-years-old I hit a ground ball and it went up a girl's shorts, and she couldn't find it. My coach wouldn't let me run all the way home; he made me stay at first!”
What was your recruiting process like?
“I wanted to stay on the West Coast, so I only looked at schools on this side of the country. Oregon was actually looking at two of my teammates on two different teams, and I got lucky that I was there and they saw me play.”
How have your first few terms on campus been?
“It has been really fun. I had the opportunity to come up here with a volleyball player and track athlete [Sumeet Gill and Cameron Stone] who went to my high school, and have made a lot of friends since I have been here.”
What is it like being a part of this team?
“It is really exciting. I was really nervous at first because these girls are on TV all the time. I watched them forever and now I get to play with them. I always feel like they are so good, but I must be able to play too if I am on this team also. It is a good feeling to know that I get to compete with these players that everyone around the country knows.”
