Ducks Beat Bears, Win Series
05/08/16 | Softball
BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 3 ranked Oregon softball team defeated California, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon to win a fourth straight series against the Bears.
The Ducks (42-7, 18-3 Pac-12) need just one more win next weekend against Utah in their final series of the season to clinch a fourth-straight outright Pac-12 title.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Both teams started the game with scoreless first and second innings.
The Ducks broke through in the third on a solo homer to right from Lauren Lindvall, her fourth of the year. After the homer a pair of infield singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Another walk to Geri Ann Glasco brought in a second run in the inning.
Lindvall made it a 3-0 game with her second solo homer of the game in the fourth. The sophomore has three career two-homer games with two coming against the Golden Bears.
Cal got back into the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, to make it a 3-2 lead for the Ducks, but Oregon answered back in the sixth. After Lindvall singled for her third hit of the game, Jenna Lilley unloaded a two-run homer into the bleachers in center.
IN THE CIRCLE: Cheridan Hawkins (19-3) picked up the win after allowing just two runs on four hits in a complete game. The lefty struck out nine batters.
UP NEXT: The Ducks return home to Jane Sanders Stadium to host Utah for their final regular season series of the year. The three-game set starts Thursday on Pac-12 Networks.
