EUGENE – Oregon sophomore Aaron Wise has been named a PING First-Team All-American, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He is the fifth player in school history to earn first-team honors, and the first since Daniel Miernicki and Eugene Wong both won in 2012.
Wise was instrumental in making the 2016 season the most memorable season in Oregon golf history, as the sophomore became the first Duck to win the NCAA Individual Championship, while also helping lead Oregon to its first golf national title.
The Lake Elsinore, Calif., product won three tournaments as a sophomore to become the first player in program history to medal three times in a single season. Wise's win at the NCAA Championship was also the fifth of his career, tying him with former Oregon standout Daniel Miernicki as the winningest player Oregon golf history.
Earlier this week, Wise was named to the PING All-West Region team. He was named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2016 Ben Hogan Award last month to become Oregon's first Hogan semifinalist since the award revised its criteria to its current standard of honoring the most outstanding amateur collegiate golfer for the 2001-02 season.
He announced his decision to turn pro after medaling at the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada's British Columbia Qualifying Tournament last month, where he earned exempt status on the Mackenzie Tour for the 2016 season.
It was also announced Wednesday that Wise was one of six of the world's top 10 amateurs to receive a sponsor exemption to compete at the PGA TOUR's 2016 John Deer Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
Other First-Team All-Americans included Charlie Danielson of Illinois, Florida's Sam Horsfield, Beau Hossler of Texas, Georgia's Lee McCoy, Maverick McNealy of Stanford, South Carolina's Matthew NeSmith, Jon Rahm of Arizona State, Vanderbilt's Matthias Schwab and Alabama's Robby Shelton.
