Winning Streak Ends in Boulder
01/28/17 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER, Colo. — Colorado hit its first four three-point attempts and rode that momentum to a 74-65 victory over No. 10 Oregon on Saturday night at the Coors Event Center.
The loss ended Oregon's school-record winning streak at 17 games, and kept the Ducks (19-3, 8-1) winless all time in Boulder (0-7).
It did not help the Ducks' cause that three players fouled out and Oregon was whistled for a season-high 25 fouls.
How It Happened: Colorado (12-10, 2-7) ran out to a 14-5 lead thanks to those four threes. The Ducks battled back with nine points from Tyler Dorsey and eight from Chris Boucher and only trailed by a point at halftime, 35-34.
In the second half, neither team could build more than a two-possession lead until Colorado took charge in the final five minutes. After a Dylan Ennis free throw tied the game at 51-51 with 5:40 to play, the Buffaloes went on a 13-1 run to take a 64-52 lead with 3:11 remaining.
Payton Pritchard sparked one final charge by Oregon by hitting a pair of threes in a 9-1 run that cut the Buffaloes' lead to 65-61 with 1:56 remaining. But Colorado made enough free throws down the stretch for the win.
Who Stood Out: Pritchard set a career high with 19 points, including 5-of-9 three-pointers. Ennis added 10.
What It Means: Oregon lost for the first time since November, and now will have to wait until Thursday for another chance for its 20th win of the season.
Quotable:
Head coach Dana Altman
"The start of the game they made those four threes early and that set the tone for the ball game. We came out flat."
Notable: Oregon allowed a team to score 70 points for just the third time this season. … It was just the fourth time this season that Oregon trailed at the half. … Jordan Bell and Ennis fouled out for the first time this season, while Boucher was disqualified for only the second time.
Up Next: The Ducks return to Matthew Knight Arena to host Arizona State on Thursday (8 p.m., FS1).
