Clark, Xiong Named to First Spring Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking
02/09/17 | Men's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oregon men's golf senior Wyndham Clark is ranked No. 1 on the first of three spring Arnold Palmer Cup rankings. Freshman Norman Xiong also made the list with a No. 6 ranking.
The Arnold Palmer Cup, played June 9-11 at the Atlanta Athletic Club, pins the top American and European collegiate players against one another for an exciting annual match.
Clark also earned the top ranking on the fall Arnold Palmer Cup rankings, released Nov. 16. Xiong's No. 6 ranking is highly notable, considering he has only played in two collegiate tournaments in his career thus far. Six of the 25 American golfers hail from the Pac-12, with three of the 25 Europeans coming from the league.
Rankings are determined by the top six players for both sides using Golfstat's NCAA Player Ranking as a base. Bonus points are rewarded for wins and high finishes, also taking into account strength of schedule. The second rankings will be announced on Feb. 23, with the third on March 9. The top American players are then narrowed down by three committee picks and once coaches pick. The final top European players consist of the champion of The R&A Foundation Scholars tournament, two committee picks and one coaches pick.
