Dominant Ducks Leave Philly With Five Wheels

THE MEN AND WOMEN OF OREGON COMPETED A DOMINANT WEEKEND AT THE PRESTIGIOUS PENN RELAYS WITH TWO MORE TITLE WHEELS, GIVING THE DUCKS FIVE TOTAL
The Oregon track and field team completed a dominant weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Saturday with two more relay wins, an individual victory and the men's college athlete of the meet, and another group of Ducks finished a busy weekend in Corvallis at the OSU High Performance meet.
How it Happened - Penn Relays: The Men of Oregon opened the day for the Ducks with a pair of strong relay performances. The quartet of Mick Stanovsek, Tim Gorman, Blake Haney and Sam Prakel ran a blazing 16:21.81 to win the Championship of America final. After providing a strong kick to help win the distance medley-relay on Friday, Prakel once again put together a great finish (4:04.07) to help bring home the fourth wheel of the weekend for the Ducks from the prestigious meet. In anchoring two winning relays, Prakel was named the men's college athlete of the meet.
Shortly after the 4xMile win, Damarcus Simpson, Kyree King, Julius Shellmire and Marcus Chambers teamed up to top their own school record in the 4x100 and finish second in the Championship of America final in 39.10.
The Women of Oregon wrapped the Ducks' weekend in Philadelphia with Oregon's fifth wheel of the meet, winning the Championship of America 4x400 relay. The team of Elexis Guster, Raevyn Rogers, Makenzie Dunmore and Deajah Stevens took home the title in 3:24.72 to break the Penn Relays meet record.
Individually, Alaysha Johnson brought home the women's collegiate title in the 110 hurdles with a winning time of 12.88, doing so while running into a headwind. In the throws, senior Ryan Hunter-Simms had a big throw in the discus, reaching 194'9" (59.36m), the seventh-best mark in UO history. Cody Danielson and John Nizich both performed well in the men's college javelin finals, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Danielson had a top throw of 226'"6 (69.04m), while Nizich reached 225'1" (68.61m).
How it Happened - OSU High Performance: Another group of Ducks wrapped their weekend in Corvallis on Saturday while their teammates were winning wheels in Philadelphia.
Freshman Maddie Rabing got things going for the Ducks in Corvallis with a great showing in the shot put, winning the competition with a PR toss of 50'1.5" (15.28m). Fellow freshman Kiana Phelps also performed well in the discus, finishing second with a best throw of 162'1.5" (49.42m). Drake Brennan and Cullen Prena took second and third in the discus, respectively, with Brennan reaching 175'10.5" (53.61m) and Prena hitting 175'5.5" (53.48m).
In the triple jump, sophomore transfer Chaquinn Cook came away with the win after reaching a season-best mark of 41'1.5" (12.54m).
Oregon also got quality marks on the track from multiple Ducks throughout the day. Freshman Braxton Canady, an NCAA Indoor qualifier in the 60-meter hurdles, finished second overall in the 110 hurdles with a PR time of 14.15. Khadejah Jackson ran a PR of her own in the 100 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.19. Jackson came back shortly after to run a season-best 1:00.03 in the 400 hurdles, and Kylee O'Connor hit a PR in 1:00.89. Joshua Rambert also set a PR in the men's 400 hurdles, finishing in 53.92.
In the middle distance, junior Brooke Feldmeier broke out with a season-best time of 2:05.07 to take fourth in the 800, and freshman standout Katie Rainsberger shattered her previous PR in 2:05.20.
The Women of Oregon wrapped the day in Corvallis and the weekend with a strong showing in the 4x400 relay, as the group of O'Connor, Jackson, Rainsberger and Feldemeier won the race in a facility record 3:51.34.
What it Means: With five relay wins at the famous Penn Relays and multiple strong individual performances, the Ducks put together another impressive weekend as they work towards the championship season. Oregon will now prepare for its first and only regular-season home meet at Historic Hayward Field, the Oregon Twlight next Friday, May 5 (3 p.m.). The Ducks' multi-event athletes, Mitch Modin and Joe Delgado, will also be back in action next weekend in Corvallis for the Pac-12 Multi-Event Championships.
