Coste, Duck Duo Advance at ITA Regionals

EUGENE, Ore. – With his third three-set win in as many days, sophomore Emmanuel Coste is into the quarterfinals of the ITA Northwest Regional. The Ducks also advanced the doubles team of Joshua Charlton and Thomas Laurent into the semifinals. Play resumes Sunday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
"Deep into the tournament all the teams are worn mentally and physically but I think the Ducks did a great job today to dig deep mentally," head coach Nils Schyllander said. "Manu won his third-straight three setter and is showing great mental toughness.
"We are still alive with chances to play for regional titles in both singles and doubles. Tomorrow is another day with great opportunities and we will be ready to go."
Charlton and Laurent booked their spot in the semifinals with an 8-6 win over Stanford's William Genesen and Sameer Kumar, the tournament's No. 4-seeded duo. In the semifinals, the Ducks are set to take on top-seeded Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer of Washington. Oregon is looking to advance a doubles team to the regional final for a third-consecutive year.
After a doubles loss in the morning, Coste rebounded with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Gonzaga's Ruadhan O'Sullivan. Coste will next play Philip Hjorth of Pacific with a semifinal berth on the line.
