Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Seniors Daniela Nasser and Shweta Sangwan both went 1-1 at the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday to advance to the second round of the qualifying singles backdraw.
How It Happened: After competing in three matches during the pre-qualifying draw of the tournament, Nasser was back on the court for more.
The Tampa, Fla. native struggled in her first match of the day, falling to North Carolina's Alexa Graham, 3-6, 1-6.
However, the toughness Nasser put on display during pre-qualifiers resurfaced during her second match. Nasser took down Magda Adologlou of Mississippi State in three sets, her third three-set match of the tournament, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3.
A few courts over, the story looked pretty similar for Sangwan.
Sangwan, who came into the tournament ranked as the No. 42 player in the nation, fell to Alabama's Andie Daniell in straight sets, 2-6, 2-6. Nevertheless, Sangwan recovered nicely in her second match of the day, downing Alexandra Pisareva of Utah State in back-to-back sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Up Next: With their wins today, Nasser and Sangwan will both advance to the second round of the qualifying singles backdraw on Wednesday. Nasser will take on Amanda Meyer (Vanderbilt) while Sangwan will face Lauren Proctor (Winthrop).
