Ducks Open Season at No. 3 in AP Poll
10/31/18 | Women's Basketball
BRISTOL, Conn. - The Oregon women's basketball team will open up the season as the No. 3 ranked squad in the nation, the Associated Press announced on Wednesday at the NCAA's national media day at ESPN headquarters.Â
The No. 3 ranking is the highest in program history. Oregon was ranked as high as No. 6 last season en route to a second straight Elite Eight appearance. The Ducks were No. 11 in last season's preseason top-25 poll.Â
Oregon is coming off both a Pac-12 regular season and tournament title as part of a school-record 33-5 season. The Ducks return Pac-12 player of the year, All-American and national point guard of the year, Sabrina Ionescu, plus the national power forward of the year, Ruthy Hebard. Oregon also brings back Pac-12 freshman of the year Satou Sabally and all-Pac-12 pick Maite Cazorla.Â
The Pac-12 has a record three teams in the top-10 of the preseason poll (No. 3 Oregon, No. 7 Stanford, No. 8 Oregon State) and five teams total (No. 23 ASU, No. 24 California).Â
Oregon's home opener on Nov. 10 is against No. 18 ranked Syracuse.Â
