Ducks In Fourth After Day One of Paintbrush Invitational

PARKER, Colo. – Oregon sits in fourth place after day one of the Paintbrush Invitational after going 14 over in the first two rounds Monday at Colorado Golf Club. Ryan Gronlund posted rounds of 69 and 72 and is tied for fourth while Tom Gueant and Sam Foust delivered under par rounds in round two.
Round two was suspended due to darkness with a few groups still out on the golf course after the start of the day was delayed by weather conditions. The completion of the second round will come early Tuesday morning with the final round to follow.
How it Happened – Round One: Gronlund came out firing with back-to-back birdies at holes two and three to begin his day. He got to 4 under and was tied for the lead through 16 holes after making three birdies and a bogey in a four-hole stretch from holes 14 to 17, but dropped back to 3 under with a bogey at 18.
Edwin Yi continued his run of steady play by shooting a 1-over 73 in round one. He birdied the par-3 second hole but dropped to 2 over with a bogey at hole five followed by a double bogey at six. Yi bounced back with a birdie at the par-5 seventh hole to go out in 1 over and shot even par coming in.
Round Two: In just his second collegiate round, Gueant turned in a steady 1-under 71 to move to 5 over for the tournament. He birdied the par-4 fifth hole but dropped shots at the seventh and 12th to go to 1 over for the round. Gueant birdied the par-5 16th and the par-4 18th to get back into red figures before making par on his final three holes.
Competing as an individual, Foust turned in his second round of the year in the 60s with a 3-under 69 and is tied for 11th. He started on hole 18 and went bogey, birdie before a double bogey at the fourth put him at 2 over on the round. Foust recovered and made four birdies and a bogey in his next 11 holes before an eagle at the par-5 16th hole to get to 3 under.
Gronlund followed his solid opening round with an even-par 72 to remain 3 under while Yi and Craig Ronne shot 3-over 75s.
