Lehman-Winters Earns Regional Honor
11/13/18 | Cross Country
EUGENE, Ore. – In recognition of her guidance to the Women of Oregon cross country team, Helen Lehman-Winters is this year's recipient of the Tom Heinonen Award which is given to the USTFCCCA West Region Women's Coach of the Year. The Ducks enter this weekend's NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships as the second-ranked team in the nation.
In their most recent outing, the Women of Oregon ran to the program's 11th regional team title to earn automatic placement into the NCAA meet. The Ducks placed all five of their scorers inside the top 20 with three in the top 10. Those five runners—Jessica Hull (2nd), Susan Ejore (3rd), Weronica Pyzik (7th), Carmela Cardama Baez (13th) and Isabelle Brauer (20th)—all collected all-region accolades.
Oregon began its postseason campaign with a victory at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships at Stanford. It was the program's 10th conference title and first since the 2014 season. With four Ducks placing in the top eight, the team best then-No. 1 Colorado for the team title.
The Ducks will be making their 30th NCAA appearance when the team toes the line Saturday in Madison, Wis. The women's 6K is scheduled for an 8:45 a.m. PT start at the Zimmer Championship Course. The meet will be streamed live by FloTrack.
This is the second-consecutive regional award for Lehman-Winters who was honored last season while she was at San Francisco.
