Flanagan Repeats as Big Ten Coach of the Year
11/05/25 | Cross Country
The Women of Oregon set the meet scoring record (18 points) in winning the Big Ten title.
EUGENE, Ore. – For a second-consecutive season, Shalane Flanagan has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year after leading the Women of Oregon to the league's cross country title last week in East Lansing, Mich.
The UO women swept the top-three spots and placed their top six inside the top nine overall in route to scoring 18 points, a new low tally at the Big Ten Championships. The previous meet scoring record of 22 points was set by Wisconsin in 1985.
Freshman Diana Cherotich won the individual title followed by UO teammates Juliet Cherubet and Silan Ayyildiz in second and third places, respectively. Dalia Frias, in her first cross country season since 2022, finished fifth while Mia Barnett was seventh to mirror her finish from a season ago and Anika Thompson crossed in a conference career-best ninth place.
Individually, Evan Bishop and Ali Ince were recognized as the Ducks' Sportsmanship Award honorees in cross country. The student-athletes chosen by each school are individual who have set themselves apart through hard work, sportsmanship and honorable behavior.
In the Nov. 4 release of the USTFCCCA national coaches poll, the Women of Oregon held on to their spot as the No. 4 team in the country. Oregon is one of five teams with both teams inside the top 10 with the Men of Oregon checking in at a season-high No. 7, up three spots following a title of their own at the Big Ten Championships.
The Big Ten will announce the Athlete and Freshman of the Year following the NCAA Championships.
