11/15/18 | Football
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon football junior quarterback Justin Herbert and junior offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 first team selected by CoSIDA on Thursday.
Â
The Academic All-District honor is the second in as many years for Herbert and Throckmorton. Herbert went on to be named to the Academic All-America first team in 2017. With their All-District first team honor, Herbert and Throckmorton are now eligible for Academic All-America status.
Â
Carrying a 4.06 cumulative GPA as a biology major, Herbert is also a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Man of the Year Award and was a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy. The Eugene, Ore., native owns the nation's longest streak of 25 consecutive games with a TD pass and ranks eighth nationally with 25 TD passes on the season. Herbert's 2,621 passing yards rank 20th nationally as he looks to become just the fifth player in program history to throw for 3,000 yards in a single season.
Â
One of the nation's most versatile and dominant offensive linemen, Throckmorton sports a 3.84 cumulative GPA as a human physiology major. Throckmorton enters Saturday's game with 34 consecutive starts along the offensive line with those starts coming at four different spots (LT, C, RG, RT). A native of Bellevue, Wash., Throckmorton is the No. 4 ranked tackle in the country, according to Pro Football Focus, and is one of seven FBS offensive linemen to start at three different positons in 2018.
