Herbert, Throckmorton highlight 15 Ducks on Pac-12 academic team

EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon juniors Justin Herbert and Calvin Throckmorton were named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Academic first team Monday, while junior Gary Baker was named second-team and 12 other Ducks' earned honorable mention recognition.
Throckmorton's first-team honor is his third straight while Herbert has earned back-to-back first-team accolades. Herbert, a quarterback from Eugene, has a 4.06 grade-point average in biology. Throckmorton, an offensive lineman from Bellevue, Wash., has a 3.84 grade-point average in human physiology.
A three-year starter, Herbert helped lead Oregon to an 8-4 record and a berth in the Redbox Bowl. During the regular season, he completed 221-of-371 passes for 2,985 yards and 28 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. He has a touchdown pass in 28 consecutive games, the longest streak in the nation, and his 28 TD passes on the year are tied for the 10th most in the country.
Throckmorton has started all 37 games during his career, 28 at right tackle, five at left tackle three at right guard and one at center. Pro Football Focus ranks the Ducks' versatile offensive lineman as the top offensive lineman in the Pac-12 Conference, as well as the third-best tackle in the country. He has allowed just one sack in his last 30 games, a total of 2,232 snaps.
Baker, an honorable mention academic selection last season, started seven games on the defensive line this season. The Upland, Calif., native finished the regular season with 35 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup. Baker had a season-high seven tackles, all solo, at Arizona.
In addition to Herbert, Throckmorton and Baker, the following 12 Ducks were named to the conference's honorable mention all-academic team: junior offensive tackle Brady Aiello, senior linebacker Kaulana Apelu, junior tight end Jacob Breeland, junior safety Brady Breeze, sophomore quarterback Braxton Burmeister, sophomore offensive guard Jacob Capra, junior defensive lineman Drayton Carlberg, junior center Jake Hanson, sophomore tight Hunter Kampmoyer, junior offensive guard Shane Lemieux, junior punter Blake Maimone and sophomore linebacker Sampson Niu.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's games.
