Xiong in Top 10 After Round One of Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore. – Oregon finished at 2-over par and in a tie for seventh place in round one of the Bandon Dunes Championship at the Bandon Dunes Resort's Pacific Dunes Course on Sunday. Norman Xiong led the way for the Ducks, shooting a 3-under par 68 and in a tie for sixth.
How it Happened: Xiong made five birdies on the day and had just one blemish on his scorecard with a double bogey on hole five. He shot an even-par 36 on his opening nine before firing a 3-under 32 on the back nine, ending his day with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole.
Donald Kay shot a 1-over 72 and is in a tie for 33rd individually. He got off to a slow start, going 4 over on the front nine, but bounced back with a 3-under 32 coming in.
Thomas Mulligan and Edwin Yi both turned in opening rounds of 2-over par 73 and are tied for 41st. Mulligan got off to a fast start, making birdie on holes two and three, but went 4 over the rest of the day. Yi recovered nicely after an opening triple bogey and birdied two of the next four holes.
Ryan Gronlund shot a 5-over par 76 and is tied for 62nd and Kevin Geniza recorded an opening round 3-over 74 playing as an individual. Freshman Marcel Boet finished with a 5-over 76 in his first collegiate tournament action.
The Ducks are tied with Santa Clara at 2 over and are 13 shots behind round one leader Arizona State which shot 11 under.
