Eugene, Ore. – Junior Parker Kelly has been named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week and the Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week after putting together three dominating performances out of the bullpen last week.
Kelly (Portland, Ore. / Westview HS) allowed no runs on just one hit in seven innings pitched while striking out 14 and walking just one in appearances vs. FAU and UC Davis. He finished with a career-high seven strikeouts while picking up the win over UC Davis on Friday and followed with a six strikeout performance against the Aggies on Sunday. Kelly's career high for strikeouts coming into the UC Davis series was four.
Kelly started the week with a crucial inning of work in Oregon's win against FAU on Monday. The Ducks' reliever entered the game in the top of the seventh inning with runners on second and third, no outs, and the Ducks leading 5-3. Kelly got out of the inning allowing just one of the runners to score, striking out the final batter.
The Ducks' right-handed pitcher put together arguably the best outing of his career in Friday's win over UC Davis. Kelly entered the game with a runner on first and no outs in the seventh inning. He struck out two of the three batters he faced in the inning while also getting an out on a ground ball to end the inning. He proceeded to strike out the side in the eighth and fanned two more in the ninth. In the game, Kelly struck out seven of the 10 batters he faced.
Kelly wrapped up the weekend with another dominating appearance against UC Davis on Sunday. He fanned six of the 10 batters he faced including five of the last six.
On the season, Kelly is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA in nine appearances with 23 strikeouts and just two walks in 14 innings. His four wins are tied for the national lead and opponents are hitting just .111 against him.
