Xiong Advances as Individual, Ducks Miss Cut at NCAA Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oregon shot 15 over in round three of the NCAA Championships Sunday at Karsten Creek Golf Club and will not be among the 15 teams moving on to the final round of stroke play. Norman Xiong sits in a tie for 22nd at 1 under and will compete in Monday's round for a shot at the individual championship.

How it Happened: Xiong struggled to get going on his opening nine, making a pair of bogeys at 13 and 14 before a birdie at 15 put him at 1 over. He dropped to 3 over on the round after bogeys at holes two and five, but birdied six, eight and nine for the second straight day while bogeying seven to finish 1 over in round three.

Ryan Gronlund turned in his best round of the week, shooting an even-par 72. He bogeyed the par-3 11th hole but reeled off three straight birdies at 13, 14 and 15 to get to 2 under. Gronlund made bogey at 17 but finished his opening nine with a birdie at 18 to shoot 2 under on the back nine. He shot a 2-over 38 on the front nine to finish 12 over for the tournament.

Edwin Yi shot a 4-over 76 and was the Ducks' second-best finisher of the week in a tie for 68th. He made four bogeys before making birdie at 18 to card 3-over 39 on the back nine to start his day. Yi birdied holes three and eight on the front nine but made bogey at two and double bogey at six to shoot 1 over after the turn.
