STILLWATER, Okla. – Norman Xiong shot an even-par 72 in the final round of stroke play at the NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek Golf Club to finish tied for 11th and complete what will go down as one of the more spectacular individual seasons in Oregon history.
How it Happened: Xiong looked to be rhythm early on, making birdie on two of his first four holes to get to 3 under for the tournament. He followed with five straight pars before making bogey at the par-5 ninth to go out in 1-under 35.
Bogeys at 10 and 12 dropped him back to 1 over for the day, but he got one of those back with a birdie at the par-5 14th. Xiong bogeyed the par-4 16th and birdied the par-5 18th to card a 1-over 37 coming in.
A Season for the Ages: Xiong's tied for 11th place finish capped off the greatest individual season in program history. He ended the year with an Oregon record six victories, doubling the old record of three, while also setting a new career-wins mark with seven. Xiong shot in the 60s in 23 of his 38 rounds and was the low scorer for the Ducks in 10 of the 13 tournaments.
Xiong Named PING First-Team All-American: Xiong was also named a Division I First-Team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He was one of 11 named to the team and the seventh first-team selection in program history. Last year, Xiong was named to the second-team following his freshman season.
