05/31/18 | Men's Golf
Norman Xiong was named the winner of the Jack Nicklaus Award presented by Barbasol, given to the top men's Division I golfer. He is the second player in Oregon history to win the award after Eugene Wong claimed the honor in 2010.
The Canyon Lake, Calif. native put together the best individual season in program history, winning six times to double the old record of three. He went on an unbelievable stretch of three consecutive victories at the Duck Invitational, The Goodwin and Western Intercollegiate before claiming medalist honors at the Stockton Regional. Xiong also won twice in the fall at the season-opening Rod Myers Invitational and the Nike Collegiate Invitational.
The sophomore finished the year with a scoring average of 69.05 and shot in the 60s in 23 of his 38 rounds. He also was the low scorer for the team in 10 of the 13 tournaments and shot over par in just seven rounds.
Xiong has already received numerous awards for his stellar play throughout the season, being named a Division I PING First-Team All-American and First-Team All-Pac-12. He was also a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award and is the frontrunner for the Haskins Award, both given to the top men's college golfer.
