EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men's tennis head coach Nils Schyllander completed his 2018-19 coaching staff on Friday with the addition of Calle Hansen as the Ducks' volunteer assistant coach.
A two-time all-American and team captain at Pepperdine from 2001-04, Hansen comes to the Ducks after spending the last nine years (2010-18) as the director of tennis at Westlake Athletic Club.
Hansen joins Schyllander and first-year assistant coach Arron Spencer on the staff of a Ducks team that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year in 2016-17.
"Arron and I are thrilled to welcome Calle to the Duck family," said Schyllander. "With his knowledge and stellar background in the game of tennis, our student-athletes will benefit tremendously from his expertise. Not only is Calle a great coach and player, but he is also an amazing and humble person that will be able to help guide our student-athletes and help them reach their goals on the court and in life."
Hansen established himself as one of the nation's top players during his time at Pepperdine, reaching as high as No. 5 in the national double rankings and No. 24 in singles. Hansen reached the final eight of the NCAA Doubles Championship in both 2003 and 2004, while also qualifying for the NCAA Singles Championship both years. As a team, he led the Waves to an NCAA Elite Eight appearance in 2002 and a Sweet 16 run in 2001 while also winning four straight West Coast Conference titles (2001-04). The Waves finished the 2002 season ranked No. 5 in the nation.
Hansen was the 2001 WCC player of the year before going on to win a pair of Pro Future Doubles titles. After graduating from Pepperdine in 2004, Hansen was the head pro for four years at Westlake Athletic Club before moving into the role of director of tennis.
