Ducks Collect Six Wins at UW Preview

SEATTLE, Wash. – It's officially track and field season in Eugene and the Oregon track and field team opened its 2019 campaign with six wins Saturday at the UW Preview. The Ducks' got wins from Rieker Daniel, Eric Edwards Jr., Jacoby McNamara, Maddie Rabing, Jasmin Reed and Kaylah Robinson.
"This is a meet we've used to see where we are after our fall training," head coach Robert Johnson said. "When the lights came on, we certainly saw some good performances. Those wins and PRs are always a high point and the types of performances we strive for in our program. We also saw some spots that we will need to re-tool over the next 10 days before heading to Arkansas."
Rabing secured the Ducks' first win of 2019 with her effort in the weight throw. The redshirt sophomore produced five throws better than her previous PR including the winning mark of 19.13m/62-9.25 in the sixth round. With the performance, Rabing moved to No. 5 on the UO career list.
The Ducks swept the 60-meter hurdle titles with Edwards leading a 1-2-3 finish for the Men of Oregon and Robinson crossing first in the women's race. In his debut, Edwards posted a winning time of 7.80 (No. 6 UO) while teammate Jonathan Harvey set a personal best of 8.02 in the runner-up spot.
In her win, Robinson stopped the clock at 8.34 and finished just .01 off her personal best. Teammate and freshman Emily Sloan had a day's best of 8.43 (No. 6 UO) to finish in third place overall.
Oregon's first win on the track came from Reed at 60 meters. The sophomore pulled away for a time of 7.39 which established a new personal best. Newcomer Iman Brown was fourth in the race and tied her PR of 7.50 from Saturday morning's preliminary round.
The Ducks also picked up wins at 200 and 400 meters from Daniel and McNamara, respectively. Daniel registered a personal-best time of 21.75 in the win, pacing four Oregon runners among the top five.
Notable: Oraine Palmer finished second at 60 meters in 6.65 (No. 4 UO) … Spenser Schmidt ran 6.73 (No. 8 UO) in 60-meter final … Kiana Phelps was the shot put runner-up with a PR of 15.04m/49-4.25 (No. 6 UO) … Susan Ejore was top collegian and overall runner-up at 1,000 meters in 2:44.84 … Oregon tallied 17 top-three finishes overall … 16 Ducks made their UO track debut.
Next: Oregon returns to Eugene for two more weeks of training before the Razorback Invitational (Jan. 25-26) in Fayetteville, Ark. The SEC Network will televise a three-hour window on day two of the meet.
