Mullens To Serve Second Season as Playoff Selection Committee Chair
01/16/19 | Football, General
Oregon's athletic director had his CFP committee appointment extended to four years so that he could serve a second year as chair in 2019.
Oregon director of athletics Rob Mullens will serve a second season as chair of the College Football Playoff selection committee, CFP executive director Bill Hancock announced Wednesday.
Mullens, the UO athletic director since 2010, was appointed to the selection committee for a three-year term beginning in 2016. He was named committee chair for the 2018 season, and he will be able to complete the full two-year term as chair after his original three-year appointment was extended Wednesday through February 2020.
Hancock said the CFP management committee was "delighted that Rob will return as chair of the selection committee. He is thoughtful, considerate and detailed in leading the committee's discussions each week during the season, and he is a tremendous representative of the CFP with the media and public."
The selection committee begins meeting late in each regular season, assembling a ranking of the top 25 FBS teams with the ultimate goal of designating the top four, who participate in the annual playoff semifinals. As chair, Mullens sets the agenda and facilitates discussion during the committee's weekly meetings, and serves as spokesman along with Hancock.
