01/07/19 | Track and Field
EUGENE, Ore. – Two-time NCAA champion Jessica Hull will begin her 2019 track campaign as a member of The Bowerman preseason watch list as announced Monday by the USTFCCCA.
The Ducks' indoor season begins Jan. 12 with the UW Preview in Seattle.
Hull is the reigning NCAA champion at 1,500 meters, becoming the first UO woman to win an NCAA title in the event since Claudette Groenendaal in 1984. Hull also won the 1,500-meter event title at the Pac-12 Championships. At the NCAA Indoor Championships, she ran the lead-off leg of Oregon's victorious DMR and raced to third individually at 3,000 meters.
The Albion Park, Australia, native enters the year as the school-record holder in the mile at 4:31.76 and also owns personal bests of 4:08.75 (No. 4 in UO history) at 1,500 meters and 8:58.50 (No. 2) at 3,000 meters.
Hull carries plenty of momentum in to 2019 on the heels of a breakout cross country season. She placed third—a 90-spot improvement from the previous year—at the NCAA Championships which marked the highest UO individual finish since 2012. Hull was also the Pac-12 runner-up.
The Bowerman, which is named for legendary University of Oregon coach Bill Bowerman, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track and field athletes in the nation.
Five Ducks have won The Bowerman since the award debuted in 2009. The list of UO winners features Galen Rupp (2009), Ashton Eaton (2010), Laura Roesler (2014), Jenna Prandini (2015) and Raevyn Rogers (2017).
