Four Ducks Take on ITA All-American
10/02/19 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – For four members of the University of Oregon men's tennis team, the 2019-20 season begins Oct. 5-13 with the ITA All-American at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Senior Ty Gentry, juniors Emmanuel Coste and Riki Oshima and sophomore Joshua Charlton will represent the Ducks at the prestigious event.
In singles play, Gentry and Oshima are scheduled for the pre-qualifying rounds (Oct. 5-6) with Coste and Charlton entered in the qualifying bracket (Oct. 7-8). They will be competing for spots in the main draw (Oct. 29).
Charlton and Gentry are also entered in the doubles competition, set to begin in the qualifying bracket. The Oregon duo, No. 45 in the ITA preseason rankings, was 13-6 last season with a pair of ranked wins. Charlton—with former UO standout Thomas Laurent—is the defending ITA Northwest Region doubles champion.
In the preseason singles poll, Coste (No. 100) and Charlton (115) are among the top-125 players in the country. Coste was 17-13 in his first year with the Ducks, reached as high as No. 78 in the country and is the reigning ITA Northwest Region singles champion. Charlton and Oshima each had a team-high 20 wins in singles play last year.
As part of their five-event fall slate, the team will host the Duck Invitational (Nov. 1-3) at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene. Last year, Gentry won the singles title while junior Charles Roberts teamed with Armando Soemarno to take the doubles crown.
