Williams Earns Pac-12 Leadership Award
11/21/19 | Women's Lacrosse
EUGENE, Ore. – Former Oregon player Shannon Williams was named one of two recipients of the Pac-12 Leadership Award for 2018-19 Thursday as announced by the Pac-12 Conference. This is the second year in a row that an Oregon lacrosse player has won the award, after Natalie Modly received the honor for the 2017-18 academic year.
The Pac-12 Leadership Award is given annually to one male and one female student-athlete who demonstrated outstanding leadership and served on their school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The award, which includes a $3,000 scholarship for postgraduate study, is voted on by the Pac-12 Conference's SAAC and given to a student-athlete that has completed their athletics eligibility with plans to attend graduate school.
Williams finished her Oregon career as one of the program's most decorated players, for both her on and off-the-field accomplishments. She was named the Pac-12 Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2019 while becoming Oregon's recipient of the Tom Hansen Medal. Williams was also a three-time first-team conference all-academic selection and earned IWLCA Academic Honor Roll recognition as both a junior and senior.
The 2019 graduate finished her four years at Oregon as the school's career record holder in points (252), goals (158), points per game (3.63) and goals per game (2.29). She also set the program single-season record for points with 72 as a sophomore, before breaking her own record as a junior with 74 points. The Bel Air, Md. native was a three-time all-conference selection.
Williams is the third Duck to receive the award in its 17-year history while the Oregon lacrosse program is just the third program overall and second women's program to have two different student-athletes claim the award.
