Veterans Lead Day One at Poppy Hills

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Oregon got steady play from its three veterans on the way to shooting 3 over to sit in ninth place following round one of the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Club. Tom Gueant fired the low round of the day for the Ducks with a 1-under 70 to put him in a tie for 21st.
How it Happened: Gueant bogeyed the par-3 second hole and was 1 over through six, but caught fire with three straight birdies to get to 2 under at the turn. He made two bogeys and a birdie on the back nine to shoot 1 over coming home and finish with a season-low 1-under 70.
Yin Ho Yue turned in an even-par 71 and is tied for 33rd. He opened his day with a par before going birdie, bogey, birdie at holes two through four and shot 1 under on the opening nine. After a double bogey at the par-3 11th, he made two birdies and a bogey over his final seven holes to finish 1 over on the back nine.
Kevin Geniza shot a 1-over 72, highlighted by his first eagle of the year, coming at the par-5 ninth hole. The senior was 1 under through 16 but made back-to-back bogeys at 17 and 18 to end his round. Edwin Kuang shot a 3-over 74 in his first collegiate round while Nate Stember also turned in a 74.
Colorado State holds the first-round lead at 17 under while the Rams' Davis Bryant leads the way individually at 7 under.
