Ducks Lead Nation With Four on Naismith Trophy Watch List
11/06/19 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's basketball team leads the nation with four players on the preseason watch list for the 2020 Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy, given annually to the women's national player of the year.
Sabrina Ionescu, a 2019 Naismith Trophy finalist and the ESPNW preseason player of the year for the second straight season, is joined on the 50-player watch list by teammates Erin Boley, Ruthy Hebard and Satou Sabally. Oregon's four selections are the most of any team in the country, with Baylor and UConn tied for second with three apiece.
The announcement comes a day after Ionescu, Hebard and Sabally were all named to the preseason watch list for the Wooden Award.
The 50 player preseason watch list will be cut down to a midseason list of 30 players, then a list of 10 semifinalists before a group of four finalists are selected.
