Prince Waiver Denied by NCAA

EUGENE, Ore. – Sedona Prince's request for a waiver to play for the Oregon women's basketball team this season has been denied by the NCAA.
Prince, a redshirt freshman who joined the Ducks in the offseason after transferring from Texas, applied for the NCAA waiver for immediately eligibility but was denied by NCAA staff. Prince then appealed the decision, but that appeal was also denied.
Prince will be a redshirt sophomore in 2020-21 and will have three years of eligibility to play with the Ducks after sitting out this season. The Liberty Hill, Texas, native will continue to practice with Oregon this season as she works her way back from injury.
"We are obviously very disappointed in the decision made by the NCAA," said head coach Kelly Graves. "We felt that we submitted a strong case and believed Sedona was deserving of the opportunity to play immediately once she was physically able. If this case doesn't merit relief, I don't know what does.
"This has not been an easy process for Sedona and she is extremely disappointed with the decision, but I know she will continue to be a tremendous teammate as she works hard to get back to full strength. I can't wait to see her in a Duck uniform over the next three seasons."
Prince was the No. 8 ranked recruit in the nation in the class of 2018, and she was the Texas Girls Coaches Association Basketball Athlete of the Year (1A-4A) after averaging 22.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game as a senior.
