Ducks Set to Host Rainbow Warriors
12/04/19 | Men's Basketball
Oregon opens December by hosting the Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii Saturday at 4 p.m. (Pac-12 Networks).
THE STARTING FIVE
• 1 – The game against Hawaii will be the first time in nearly a month that the Ducks won't be playing a team picked to finish first or second in their respective preseason poll. Saturday's contest ends a string of six consecutive games against teams that fit that description: Memphis (tie-1st, American Athletic), UT Arlington (2nd, Sun Belt), Houston (tie-1st, American Athletic), Seton Hall (1st, Big East), Gonzaga (1st, West Coast) and North Carolina (2nd, ACC).
• 2 – Oregon is the only team in the nation that has played four games against top-15 opponents (with a fifth game likely at No. 4 Michigan next week). The Ducks have faced No. 13 Memphis, No. 13 Seton Hall, No. 8 Gonzaga and No. 6 North Carolina. It is the first time in program history that Oregon has played four ranked nonconference opponents.
• 3 – Oregon hasn't defeated Hawaii since the 1974-75 season when the Ducks won 77-72 in Eugene. Since then, the Rainbow Warriors have won five straight against Oregon.
• 4 – Oregon's 2019 fourth-ranked recruiting class came into its own during the Battle 4 Atlantis. The freshmen, Chandler Lawson, Addison Patterson and C.J. Walker, combined to score 22 points in the opening round win against Seton Hall.
• 5 – Now the winningest coach in Oregon history, Dana Altman is one of six active head coaches in NCAA Division I who have posted a winning record for the last 22 consecutive seasons. The other five are in the Hall of Fame.
BATTLE TESTED
Oregon played three consecutive top-15 opponents at the Battle 4 Atlantis - No. 13 Seton Hall, No. 8 Gonzaga and No. 6 North Carolina. The games were decided by two points, one point and four points. The Ducks defeated Seton Hall 71-69, fell to Gonzaga 73-72 in overtime and lost to North Carolina 78-74. The combined score of the games was 217-220 with an average margin of victory of 2.3 points per game.
STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
Oregon has arguably played the most difficult schedule in the nation so far this season. The Ducks' four games against top-15 teams leads the nation (with a fifth top-15 team on tap next week at No. 4 Michigan).
Teams that have played three or more top-15 teams this season (as of Dec. 4)
4- Oregon (potentially one more at Michigan, Dec. 14)
3- Michigan (potentially one more vs. Oregon, Dec. 14)
3- Michigan State
2- Seton Hall (potentially one more vs. Maryland, Dec. 19)
THAT 70's SHOW
Under Dana Altman, Oregon is 167-20 when holding opponents under 70 points, including a 132-12 mark the last six seasons. Hello, Wisconsin!

The Pac-12 will go to a 20-game schedule next year. This week, the conference announced that the Ducks will host UCLA on Dec. 3, 2020, and travel to Washington on Dec. 6.
DUCKS KNOCK OFF TOP-13 NON-CONFERENCE FOES TWICE
The Ducks' 82-74 win over No. 13 Memphis on Nov. 12 marked the first time in 23 years that Oregon defeated a non-conference opponent ranked 13th or higher during the regular season. The Ducks then repeated that feat with a 71-69 win against No. 13 Seton Hall at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Prior to this season, the last time Oregon defeated a nonconference opponent ranked 13th or higher was Dec. 7, 1996, when the Ducks defeated No. 13 Fresno State 87-75 at McArthur Court. In fact, there is only one other occasion when Oregon defeated a non-conference team ranked higher than 13th during the regular season. The Ducks defeated No. 10 Providence 86-73 in Eugene on Jan. 4, 1975.
