Winterburn Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week
12/09/19 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. – Holly Winterburn has been named the Pac-12 freshman of the week after her breakout performance in Sunday's win over South Dakota State, the conference announced on Monday.
Winterburn erupted for a season-high 17 points off the bench on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range to help lead the Oregon women's basketball team to a dominant 95-56 victory in a rematch of last season's Sweet Sixteen.
The Northampton, England, native became the ninth different player to score in double figures this season, and her 17 points are the most by a UO freshman so far in 2019-20. Winterburn's five three-pointers on Sunday paced the Ducks to an impressive 14-of-24 (58.3 percent) day from beyond the arc.
This is the first Pac-12 weekly honor awarded to a Duck this season, and Winterburn is Oregon's first Pac-12 freshman of the week since Satou Sabally won it four times during the 2017-18 season.
The Ducks (7-1) remained at No. 3 in the Associated Press poll on Monday and will head to Long Beach, Calif., this weekend to take on Long Beach State at 1 p.m. PT on Saturday. Oregon will then return home to host UC Riverside on Monday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. PT in Matthew Knight Arena.
