Yi, Foust in Top 10 Heading into Final Round

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii – Edwin Yi shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 in round two of the Amer Ari Invitational to lead Oregon to a 7 under round Friday at the Waikoloa Kings' Course. The Ducks are tied for fourth at 24-under par and 12 off the lead heading into the final round.
Yi is tied for second as an individual and one shot off the lead while Sam Foust is tied for fourth at 11 under overall after shooting a 5-under 67.
How it Happened: Yi made an eagle at the par-5 fourth hole then birdied the par-4 fifth to get to 3 under through four holes. He made par on the next four holes before making birdie at the 10th to get to 4 under. After another stretch of pars at holes 11-13, Yi birdied three of his final six holes to finish 7 under.
Foust went mistake-free through his first nine holes, starting his day with a birdie at the par-5 second. He birdied the par-5 fourth and made back-to-back birdies at seven and eight to get to 4 under on the day. Foust made three birdies and two bogeys over his final nine holes, including a birdies at 15, 16 and 18 to finish 5 under.
Kevin Geniza started with a bogey at 17 followed by back-to-back birdies at 18 and one before giving a shot back at two. He made consecutive birdies again at holes three and four before making 11 straight pars. Geniza, playing as an individual, closed with a birdie at the par-4 16th to finish 3 under.
Donald Kay shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 75th while Ryan Gronlund turned in a 3-over 75 and is tied for 24th.
No. 1 Oklahoma State holds the 36-hole lead at 36-under while Texas' Cole Hammer leads the medalist race at 13 under, one shot clear of Yi and USC's Justin Suh.
Notable: Yi matched a career-low with a 65, which he set in the final round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in the fall … Geniza's round was his best since he shot a 69 in the second round of the 2017 Duck Invitational … Foust is 7 under on the par-5s this week, tied for the best in the field … His 13 birdies this week are tied for second in the field with collegiate No. 1 player Matthew Wolff of Oklahoma State, and trails only Hammer who has 16.
