EUGENE, Ore. - Days after being named a finalist for national point guard of the year, Sabrina Ionescu has been chosen as a finalist for the Dawn Staley Award, which goes to the top overall guard in the NCAA.
Ionescu, who won the Lieberman Award for the NCAA's top point guard last year, is in the running for both national guard honors now this season.
Ionescu joins Louisville's Asia Durr, Notre Dame's Arike Ogunbowale and Buffalo's Cierra Dilliard as Staley Award finalists.
Ionescu is the only player in the NCAA averaging 14+ points, 7+ rebounds and 7+ assists per game this season and owns an NCAA single-season record seven triple-doubles.
Dawn Staley will present the award during the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia's award reception on April 11 at the Union League of Philadelphia.
"The Dawn Staley Award is given to the most outstanding collegiate guard in the country, a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed during her career (ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball and her will to win)," said Michael G. Horsey, founder of the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia.
Ionescu and the Ducks will find out their seed in the NCAA Tournament during the ESPN Selection Show at 4 PM on Monday.
