EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon women's basketball guard Sabrina Ionescu has been named an ESPNW first team All-American, the organization announced on Thursday.
This is the second straight season ESPNW has selected Ionescu to its first team All-America list. She joins Bev Smith (1981, 1982) as the only players in program history to be two-time first team All-Americans.
This year, Ionescu joins Iowa center Megan Gustafson, Mississippi State center Teaira McCowan, UConn forward Napheesa Collier and Louisville guard Asia Durr on the first team. She's the only non-senior selected to either the first or second team.
Ionescu, who was the Ducks' first ever consensus first team All-American last year, picked up her first All-America honor this season. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the Associated Press, the US Basketball Writers Association, the Wooden Award and USA Today each announce All-America teams as well.
The junior guard was named the Pac-12 player of the year for the second straight season prior to last weekend's Pac-12 Tournament.
Ionescu is averaging 19.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game while shooting 44.0 percent from the floor, 42.3 percent from three and 88.1 percent at the line. She is the only player in the NCAA averaging better than 14+ points, 7+ rebounds and 7+ assists per game.
With the NCAA selection show upcoming at 4 PM on Monday, Ionescu ranks first in the NCAA with seven triple-doubles, third with both 266 total assists and 8.1 assists per game, 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.2-to-1), 16th in total points (648), 17th in free throw percentage (88.1%) and 19th in three-point percentage (42.3%).
Ionescu led the Ducks to Elite Eight appearances in both her freshman and sophomore seasons and the first and second rounds of the 2019 NCAA Tournament start next weekend.
