Ducks Return To Spring Practice

EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon returned from its two-week break with its sixth practice of the spring on Tuesday. The Ducks were in shells (helmet and shoulder pads) inside the Moshofsky Center as they build up to Saturday's open practice at Hillsboro Stadium.
Despite being in just shells, Tuesday's practice had an intensity and competitiveness that head coach Mario Cristobal was happy with coming off the break for finals and spring break.
"We wanted make sure that our guys understood that going away on spring break was an opportunity to take a break, see your family, spend some quality time with your loved ones, but at the same time to stay in great shape because when we come back it's full tilt and that's what we had today.
Overall, just a tremendous amount of energy and they came back ready to practice."
BIG ADDITION
Head coach Mario Cristobal announced on Tuesday that former Penn State wide receiver Juwan Johnson has joined the program and is expected to be on the field for the next practice on Thursday. Standing at 6-foot-4, Johnson was easy to spot on the sideline during practice as he stayed close to the receivers group. Johnson, who graduated from Penn State in December, arrived on campus Monday night. In three seasons as a Nittany Lion, Johnson had 81 catches for 1,123 yards.
MORE EARLY ENROLLEES
Oregon's number of early enrollees on campus increased to 10 with the addition of TE Patrick Herbert, K Camden Lewis, WR Mycah Pittman and CB Mykael Wright on Tuesday. Three of the four participated in practice while Wright will join the team for its next practice. A consensus top 150 prospect in the country, Pittman's first reps as a Duck came with the second team early in the practice. Patrick Herbert joins forces with his brother Justin on offense. The Ducks now have three brother duos (Dye, Faoliu & Herbert) on the team.
WR GROUP STEPPING UP
With Johnson watching and Pittman taking his first reps as a Duck, the wide receiver group seemed to have a little extra juice during Tuesday's practice. Johnny Johnson, Brenden Schooler and Bryan Addison all made several plays throughout the course of practice whether it was in team periods, 7-on-7 or individual work with the defensive backs. All three led off the first round of redzone work with TD grabs on fade routes that were well covered. Johnson's second score of the period came on a one-handed grab, while Addison found the end zone again with a great move at the line of scrimmage that left the DB on the ground for the easy catch. During team period, Schooler was the recipient of a well-timed screen call that resulted in a big gain. Schooler's work in the Fourth Quarter program was on display during the big play, showing great burst to take a screen that started in the slot up the field.
On a day filled with good grabs by the wide receivers and tight ends, the best one of the day came at the end of high red zone work as Isaah Crocker hauled in a one-handed catch that drew loud roars from the offensive sideline.
DEFENSE RESPONDS
The defense immediately responded to Crocker's one-handed catch in the first period of team work that followed the high redzone action. Crocker's catch seemed to fire up the defense, which stuffed two consecutive runs, recorded an interception by Charles Sudduth and then forced an incompletion over a run of four plays.
