04/20/19 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. – Spencer Steer extended his school-record hitting streak to 18 games in Oregon's 10-0 loss to No. 2 Stanford on Saturday afternoon at PK Park in a Pac-12 Conference game.
How it happened: Steer doubled over the third base bag in the bottom of the sixth inning off Stanford starter Erik Miller, who allowed just four hits while fanning 11 while moving his record to 5-0.
Stanford (27-6, 13-2 Pac-12) scored five runs in the top of the first inning for the second straight day. Oregon (22-16, 7-8 Pac-12) starter Tyler Frazier allowed all five runs in 0.2 of an inning before being replaced by Kolby Somers.
Somers tossed 3.2 innings allowing a home run in the third and two runs in the fifth after walking a pair of batters with one out. Ryne Nelson relieved Somers with the two runners on, giving up a two-run single allowing the inherited runners to score to make it 8-0.
Nelson allowed just two hits in 3.2 innings pitched while fanning eight and walking three.
Stanford tacked on a pair of runs with a Brandon Wulff two-run blast in to top of the ninth inning off Nike Tellache.
Box score notes: Jakob Goldfarb led Oregon going 2-for-4 … Sam Novitske reached base with a base hit in the third inning ... Novitske, Oregon's leadoff hitter, has now reached base in 36 of Oregon's 38 games … Nelson's eight strikeouts were two off his career high … Oregon's pitchers fanned 13 Cardinal hitters while Stanford's pitchers struck out 13 Ducks as well.
