
Ducks Triumph Over No. 3 APU to Advance to NCATA Championship

WACO, Texas – The No. 2 Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team defeated No. 3 Azusa Pacific, 273.325-265.665, at the Ferrell Center on Friday afternoon to advance to the NCATA National Championship Finals.
The Ducks will face No. 1 Baylor in the final round on Saturday. This will be UO's eighth appearance in the championship round since the NCATA's inception in 2011. In that time span, Oregon has won four of eight NCATA National Championships and registered a postseason record of 72-15, including a total of 45 individual event titles and 19 All-Americans.
How It Happened: The Ducks (7-2) began the semifinal meet with a victory over the Cougars (5-3) in the compulsory event, 37.375-26.250. UO tallied its highest score of the event in the compulsory toss with a 9.800.
Oregon edged out Azusa Pacific by one-tenth of a point in the acro event, 28.425-28.325. Seniors Casi Jackson and Caroline Matos and junior Katie Bachman shined in the six-element heat with a score of 9.725.
UO left almost no room for error in the pyramid event, scoring 29.375 of 30 possible points. The open pyramid registered the best performance with a score of 9.850, while the Ducks earned a 9.775 in the inversion pyramid and a 9.750 in the synchronized pyramid. Oregon led Azusa Pacific by just over one point headed into halftime, 95.175-93.425.
Upon returning from the break, the Ducks outscored the Cougars in the toss event, 28.900-27.750. Oregon continued its momentum into the tumbling event and surpassed Azusa Pacific by just one-tenth of a point again, 55.300-55.200. Junior Payton Coon led the Ducks with a 9.725 in the six-element pass, while Jackson and senior Hannah Blair followed closely behind with scores of 9.625 in the aerial and open passes.
UO concluded the competition with a four-point advantage in the team event, 95.950-89.200, to solidify its win with the final score of 273.325-265.665.
