NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The reigning Lombardi Award winner, Ugochukwu Amadi became the first Duck taken in the 2019 NFL Draft on Saturday. Amadi was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the 132nd pick in the fourth round.
Amadi is the first Oregon defensive back to be taken in the NFL Draft since Terrance Mitchell in 2014. Oregon has now had a student-athlete selected in 33 of last 34 NFL Drafts.
In 2018, Amadi was the first FBS player with two pick-6s and a punt return for a TD in the same season since Alabama's Minkah Fitzpatrick in 2015. The versatile defensive back played in all 51 games once he arrived on campus and made the move from corner to safety during his junior campaign in 2017.
In his first full season at safety, Amadi was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award while accumulating 55 tackles, including five for loss, and three interceptions for the second consecutive year. Amadi also played nickel and showcased his versatility returning punts. The Nashville, Tenn., product returned 14 punts for 223 yards to lead the Pac-12 and rank seventh nationally with a return average of 15.93 (10 returns or more).
Amadi was an Associated Press Pac-12 All-Conference second team choice in 2018 and was a two-time Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention selection by the league coaches. In 2018, he earned both the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week and Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week awards.
