Ducks Can't Take Advantage of Ahlstrom's Strong Start
04/05/19 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. – Robert Ahlstrom gave Oregon another quality start but Oregon struggled on offense in a 5-1 loss to Fresno State in a non-conference game on Friday night at PK Park. Â
Â
How it Happened: Ahlstrom (4-4) allowed just three runs on five hits in 7.1 innings while fanning four and walking just one.
Â
He gave up a pair of solo leadoff home runs in the second inning to McCarthy Tatum and in the fifth inning to Zach Presno to fall behind 2-0 before Oregon (16-12) answered in the seventh.
Â
Max Foxcroft delivered a RBI on a bunt single with runners on first and third in the seventh to cut the lead to 2-1. Taylor Adams scored on the play after singling to lead off the inning, moving to second on a wild pitch and to third on a Cameron Campbell base hit. The Ducks stranded Foxcroft and Campbell after Sam Novitske and Tanner Smith both flew out to right field to end the inning.
Â
Fresno State (15-9) answered with two runs in the eighth and a run in the ninth. Ryan Jensen (4-1) picked up the win allowing just one run on eight hits in 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts. Oscar Carvajal picked up his second save tossing 2.2 scoreless innings.
Â
Box Score Notes: Oregon had seven of their eight hits in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings stranding six runners on base … Jonny DeLuca went 2-for-4 at the plate for his seventh multi-hit game of the season … Seven different Ducks had hits in the game … Ahlstrom picked up his third consecutive quality start.
Â
On Deck: Game three of the series is at 4 p.m. on Saturday at PK Park. Cullen Kafka (2-2, 4.70) will pitch for Oregon while Davis Moore (5-0, 4.03) will take the mound from Fresno State.
