Ducks Reign at the Beach
04/06/19 | Women's Beach Volleyball
EUGENE, Ore. – It was definitely Oregon beach weather on Saturday.
Weathering periods of both sun and rain, the Ducks won their first-ever home beach volleyball match 4-1 over Portland at Amazon Park.
How it Happened: Josie Cole and Ally Haden posted the Ducks (3-8) to a quick 1-0 lead with a 21-9, 21-13 defeat of the Pilots' Lauren Naatz and Kassidy Naone at No. 4.
Freshmen Carly Wallace and Elise Ferreria gave Oregon its second win of the day with a hard-fought 24-22, 21-16 sweep of Kellie Hughes and Jessie Brigham at No. 5.
Portland (2-7) got on the board with a three-set 12-21, 21-19, 15-9 win at No. 2 to cut Oregon's lead to 2-1.
Playing the first home match of her career, senior Lindsey Vander Wiede teamed with freshman Brooke Nuneviller to clinch the victory for the Ducks with a 21-16, 21-14 sweep of Shayla Hoeft and Morgan Robinson at the top spot.
It was the seventh win of the season for Vander Weise and Nuneviller, which broke the UO single-season wins record.
Seniors Lauren Page and August Raske then closed out the day with a 23-21, 21-17 win over Sarah Strong and Emma Scanlan at No. 3.

On hosting the program's first match…
"This is such a big deal for Oregon. Although we've had a beach program for several years, this is the first time hosting. We have a lot of firsts this year … I'm passionate about building this program and putting Oregon on the map for beach volleyball."
August Raskie, Senior
On hosting the match…
"I never thought it would happen in the four years that I was here, so to be able to be a part of this is really rewarding and shows that hard work pays off. It's just awesome to be part of the stepping stones that are being laid of this program."
Results:
1. Lindsey Vander Weide/Brooke Nuneviller (ORE) def. Shayla Hoeft/Morgan Robinson (UP) 21-16, 21-14
2. Katie Barker/Carey Williams (UP) def. Maddy Silberger-Franek/Emily Mattoon (ORE) 12-21, 21-19, 15-9

The current mark of eight was set by Ronika Stone and Maggie Scott (2017-18) … Vander Weide owns the most individual career wins in program history with 16.
